Norris House

Team Profile: Maurer Architecture

It takes a lot of heart, plenty of faith and perhaps even more work to undertake a historic renovation of any size.  We began this journey with an offer to purchase Norris House from the State of North Carolina in spring 2016.  When that offer was accepted, we knew we needed an architecture firm with significant experience in historic preservation work to guide us through the process of reviving Norris House.

Our team with Maurer Architecture, PA came on board in mid-2016, and have been with us every step of the way.  David Maurer and Laurie Jackson have spent untold hours balancing competing goals and a myriad of requirements, all while operating within a budget.  The sheer size of the project is daunting, as is the history of the building.  Nothing is simple on this project - not even our intended use of the building.  Nearly every space is serving multiple functions - there are three distinct uses planned for the space.  Compromise is to be expected, and we've done our best to remain flexible throughout the process.  We believe the results are going to be worth it, but it's nice to have allies slogging through the tough parts with us!
